Beating the Winter Blues with Naturopathic Medicine

Do you or someone you know get flat, sad or low over the winter months? Cold, dreary and wet winter weather can lead to reduced mood. Our brain and mood respond positively to sunshine and a life outdoors. But as the grey clouds start to hover, a person’s spirits can start to sink… enter: the Winter Blues.
As a Naturopath, I see a lot of people who feel this way.
It’s wonderful to see clients respond positively, and have their spirits lifted, with Naturopathic treatment when they’re feeling grumpy, angry, sad, nervy or irritable. There are so many natural, safe options and strategies available to us!
The aim of the naturopathic approach is holistic – taking into account the individual – when deciding on the best protocol and way forward. Typically, a Winter Blues-beating protocol will usually include dietary advice, the prescribing of a remedy, the recommendation of particular App and/or book, and possibly a referral to another trusted health professional. These recommendations, prescriptions and referrals will all have a positive effect on the body’s neurotransmitters, immunity and energy levels – in turn, beating those Winter Blues!
